Gomantak Fish Curry

Ingredients :

  1. Any fish of your choice ( preferably boneless)
  2. Lemon – ½ to marinate
  3. 1 large onion
  4. MAHA-GOMANTAK masala- 1 tbsp
  5. Coriander seeds- 2 tbsp
  6. Cumin seeds- ½ tbsp.
  7. Tamarind- 2 inch lump (soaked in water)
  8. Turmeric- 1 tsp
  9. 2-3 tbsp grated coconut
  10. 4-5 dried red chillies
  11. 1-2 garlic cloves
  12.  Slit green chilli- 1
  13.  Coconut milk- 100 ml (optional)
  14.  Salt as required
  15.  Oil- 2 tbsp
  16. Water as required for gravy

Process :

  1. Marinate the fish with salt, ½ tsp turmeric powder, MAHAGOMANTAK masala and half a squeezed lemon. Keep it aside.
  2. Meanwhile, prepare the curry paste by grinding all the ingredients (except coconut milk) in a mixer jar.
  3. In a pan/ skillet heat the oil and add the prepared curry paste, MAHAGOMANTAK masala and let it cook for a while.
  4. Add water and bring the gravy to boil. Keep stirring the gravy in between. You can add more water if required to adjust the consistency.
  5. Add the marinated fish and salt to the gravy and let it cook till the fish is completely cooked.
  6. Switch off the flame and add coconut milk (optional). Add chopped coriander and serve hot with hot rice.
