Marathwadi Mix Usal

Ingredients :

  1. Overnight soaked mix pulses of your choice.
  2. 1 large roughly onions
  3. 1 large finely chopped onion
  4. ¼ tsp ginger-garlic paste
  5. Dry coconut- ¼ cup
  6. 5-6 garlic cloves
  7. Spicy green chilli- as per taste
  8. ½  inch ginger
  9. 1-2 tbsp MAHA-MARATHWADA masala
  10. Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
  11.  Coriander leaves
  12.  Kashmiri red chilli powder- 1 tsp
  13.  Salt as required
  14.  Oil- 3-4 tbsp
  15.  Hot water- for gravy

Process :

  1. In a pressure cooker add some oil and add chopped onion once hot.
  2. Sauté till it turns pink then add ginger garlic paste and a pinch of turmeric powder and cook until the raw smell is gone.
  3. Add the overnight soaked mixed pulses, little bit of salt and water and pressure cook it for 2 whistles.
  4. Meanwhile, roast the dry coconut and onion until they turn brown. Add them to a mixer jar.
  5. To the same jar, add garlic, ginger, coriander and green chilli and grind it to a fine paste.
  6. Take an iron deep pan, add oil and add the prepared paste and sauté for 5-7 minutes on low-medium flame. Keep stirring occasionally.
  7. Add Kashmiri red chilli powder, salt, turmeric and MAHA-MARATHWADA masala and continue to sauté for another 5-7 minutes
  8. Add hot water and the ready pressure cooked pulses and bring it to boil.
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
